NEURAL CORRELATES OF HUMAN EMOTIONS

The brain is the powerhouse for emotional expression. There is no demarcated region for each emotion. However, there are overlapping correlations detected on fMRI scans.

Below are a few examples.

Fear - Amygdala detects threats, activates in fear, arousal, and anger. I believe this region grows with psychological manipulation.

Memory- Hippocampus links emotion to memory, activates during emotional experiencing.

Empathy- Insula processes interception (internal body states), empathy, love, anxiety

Hope and Readiness- Caudate nucleus/Basal Ganglia
